ARANTZA ARRUTI GÓMEZ holds a PhD in Pedagogy from the University of Deusto and is an Expert in Leisure Education from the same university. She is a member of the Department of Didactics and Curricular Development, and lecturer in various undergraduate, master’s and doctoral programs. Students with special educational needs had learning difficulties during the pandemic. Especially during the three months of quarantine, children and adolescents with dyslexia showed less reading activity and less motivation to read. Parents of children with dyslexia reported a significant increase in stress, and almost all parents of children with special educational needs reported difficulties in establishing study routines, negative effects on learning, and insufficient help from teachers on how to support their children’s learning (Soriano Ferrer et al., 2021).

The program for 2018-2020, with a total budget of 1.2 million EUR (with a contribution of 80% from the European Social Fund operational program for Extremadura) enabled the participation of 1 053 young people from the Roma community.
